Pesäpallo in Australia
During the 1950s and early 1960s, a wave of Finnish emigrants moved to Australia. Many of them had grown up playing pesäpallo and wanted to keep the tradition alive in their new home.
The sport became a central part of the annual Finnish Festival (also known as the Easter Games), where Finns from accross Australia came together. Pesäpallo was the first sport played at these festivals, alongside volleyball, table tennis, and once upon a time soccer!
